Charleston’s first-ever cat cafe Pounce Cat Cafe + Wine Bar opens at 283 Meeting St. this Friday, November 25, per City Paper.
Owners Ashley Brooks and Annaliese Hughes, who were able to secure a location for their concept after a successful Kickstarter campaign, will serve coffee shop style fare including pastries, tea, wine and beer. No word on how many cats will reside inside the new cafe, but according to the official website (and this crazy cute FB live video of the fur babies arriving) there will be enough to “drown in a pile” of them.
Also according to the official website— you need to make a reservation to visit. Friday’s opening hours are noon to 9 p.m.
Cat cafes are already popular in larger cities, including San Francisco, New York City, and Austin. If you haven't heard of the trend, cat cafes are basically a coffee shop with the addition of cute, cuddly kitties for petting and/or adoption. The first cat cafe opened in Taiwan in 1998, but the concept didn't hit the U.S. until recently, with the opening of KitTea in San Francisco. The nearest cat cafe to Charleston is Crumbs & Whiskers in D.C.
